Something bothers me when people talk about inspiration. I hear complaints. “I just can’t find inspiration”, “This job is not inspiring”, “They do good work but they’re just not inspired”, “They would do better if they felt inspired”, “I haven’t found the inspiration”, “If I had what she had then I would be inspired”.
I also hear admiration, “She is such an inspiration”, “I am so inspired by him”, “Those things that she did are so incredibly inspiring”, “THAT was inspiring”.
There is something missing! In these stories, inspiration either there, or it’s not. The implication is that if you don’t have it, you are simply out of luck. To get it, you have to go and look for it outside of yourself.
It is rare for someone to take credit for being inspired from within.
Here’s what I want to tell you.
You can and should take 100% credit and responsibility for your own inspiration. You never had to find it somewhere else. It has always been available to you and it still is.
Inspiration is an emotion. Emotions are caused by the thoughts we think.
You can find inspiration in any moment at any time for any reason. You do not have to wait for someone else to inspire you. You do not have to see something inspiring. You can create it for yourself. All you need is to generate a thought that creates a feeling of inspiration.
How? Think of a time that you felt inspired. What was the thought you were thinking? Can you think about it again now? If so you will feel inspired.
if you want to feel inspired, all you need to do is to ask yourself “what do I need to be thinking about to be inspired?”. And when you find that thought you can feel inspired any time.
